T<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluebayresorts.com\/blog\/?p=9411&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he Dominican Republic has a claim to being one of the Caribbean\u2019s best ecotourism destinations.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The country is located on the second largest Antilles island, with 25% of its surface area covered by beautiful national parks and scientific reserves. The Dominican Republic is home to 128 protected areas\u2014including 15 nature reserves and 32 national parks\u2014with a diversity of ecosystems that is unrivalled in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<p>Hiking is one of the favourite activities for ecotourists in the Dominican Republic, as it algives them the opportunity to discover the country\u2019s unique topography. It is home to the <strong>Padre Nuestro Ecological Trail<\/strong>, comprising a two-kilometre route through a tropical wet forest.<\/p>\n<p>This National Park is the habitat of 500 different plants and 300 species of birds. Visitors can also find stretches of white sandy beaches, as <strong>Catalina Island and Saona Island<\/strong> are also considered as Dominican territory.
