They owe their name to an inland lake which is a unique geological formation. It is caused by filtration, being under the sea level.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluebayresorts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/bluebaysensations_lanzarote_jameos2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6216\" alt=\"bluebaysensations_lanzarote_jameos2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bluebayresorts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/bluebaysensations_lanzarote_jameos2-300x195.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After crossing the small entrance we descend an ingenious spiral staircase made of volcanic rock and wood, which allows us to discover, little by little from the top, the first interior scenario: the &#8220;Jameo Chico&#8221; (Small Jameo). In this space we notice the abundant vegetation and ornamental elements.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluebayresorts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/bluebaysensations_lanzarote_jameos12.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-6207\" alt=\"bluebaysensations_lanzarote_jameos12\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bluebayresorts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/bluebaysensations_lanzarote_jameos12-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/a>Within the cave we discover a natural lake of extraordinarily clear waters that houses over a dozen endemic species of great scientific interest, including the famous blind albino crabs (Munidopsis polymorpha) that dot the rocky floor of the lake. The darkness within the grotto causes the lack of pigmentation of this rare specimen unique in the world, whitish in colour and barely one centimetre long. They are known also as &#8220;jameitos&#8221; and are the symbol of the Jameos del Agua.<\/p>\n<p>Blending into the surrounding landscape, we come to a footbridge which allows visitors to cross the lake sideways. After ascending through a landscaped wall, we will reach the &#8220;Jameo Grande&#8221; (Big Jameo).
